Turbo tie rod ends???
Looking for opinions/advice on these Turob tie rod ends. I have an 88 Carrera with 95k miles, drives great but has a very small amount of play in the stering wheel and I have experienced the "bump steer" problem at times.
I have a pair of the adjustable Koni inserts to install and thought this would be a good time to make any other improvements that might be needed. I do not track the car and am probably a conservative driver. The area I live in has some awesome mountain roads that need to be experienced from time to time, so the car will be used for....lets say... spirited pleasure driving. I would like to tighten up the front suspension and get a better "feel" for the road. Again the steering is by no means sloppy but just a little loose feeling at times (kinda hard to explain) I've read the articles on this site but now I'm looking for someone who uses there car in the same way I do and who has installed the tie rods. enough typing................What yall think??? worth the $$$

I'll chime in and say I've got the same sorta weird sense about my car's front end. I started with changing the tires (and ended up with a vibration that I haven't yet had balanced out!!) Not sure what my next step will be. My car has low mileage (46K) so I'm not sure that replacing a lot of the suspension makes sense.

Strother, I bought new tires a while ago and the car pulled to one side. I had the car aligned and it was still there. Swapped sides and it pulled the other way.
So I would not rule out a pair of bad tires. Sometimes they are bad enough that no amount of balancing will help them. Just a thought.

Turbo tie rods are a nice upgrade and you will definitely notice a difference in the preciseness and feel of the steering input/feedback. However they will not help your bump steer problems (you'll get to feel it more precisely

I had the tie rods upgraded in my SC and I was shocked at how much better it was. Much tighter and more precise steering.

Turbo tie rods WILL help your 'small amount of play' issue IF your old tie rods are really worn. The difference between old non-turbo tie rods and new turbo tie rods IS night and day BUT the difference between new non-turbo tie rods and new turbo tie rods is NOT very noticable, really.
That being said, if you need new tie rods anyway, replace with turbo tie rods. ( spend the extra $$$ and get the 'real' turbo tie rods, not some cheap aftermarket brand tho - you will be glad you did) Your bump steer issue might be due to a front ride height change (lower) without a necessary 'bump steer kit' with consists of a couple of washers and steering rack standoffs. Note that ALL cars will experience 'bump steer' to varying degrees depending on the height/depth of the bump ! Real bump steer is when even the slightest bump will 'pull' the wheel in that direction.

KC, have a look at your sway bar bushings. I just replaced mine..best 28 bucks I ever spent. It really tighten things up. I had an easy extra 1/4" of slop in the original bushings . The sway bar just flopped around in the enlarged openings.

KC,
Get the kit that Pelican sells. If you do a search, you will see that I have a posting with extra pictures to help you through the process. If you get stuck, post here and there will be plenty of people to help guide you through it. To me, it is money well spent. The non-turbo inner end is composed of a rubber bushing that WILL get sloppy with time and use. Mine was shot. The turbo kit has a solid "ball joint" mount for the inner end and eliminates all play associated with the original inner bushing. VERY nice feel when complete. -Chris
