Shipping to Italy -

What is the cheapest way to ship to Italy - I sold some parts to a gentleman there and the rates seem very high.

Any ideas?

To the Netherlands US Postal Service is the most cost effective. Italy will probably be similar

I have to agree with Peterfrans on the USPS.. I get stuff shipped from the US to Aus all the time and, believe it or not, USPS is *always* faster, cheaper (in the long run) and less hassle..

Data points ..

USPS - 28 parcels - avg 9 days door to door ( 2 with customs hassle)
UPS - 6 parcels - avg 18 days door to door ( 6 with customs hassle )
Fedex - 3 parcels - avg 15 days door to door ( 2 with customs hassle )

Just my Aud$0.02

Same for Belgium...

USPS the cheapest and service is OK (far from great, but @ half the price)...

I get my PP stuff sent by USPS all the time.

When stationed in Italy in the late 90s, we did everything we could to not use the Italian postal system for valuable items. Stuff disappeared quite frequently prior to delivery. We used our FPO-AE address exclusively.

If it is going to an Italian national address, consider insurance if the package is valuable.

If you use a courier service you invariably get hit with import taxes, around 30%.

If you use post it usually slips through if it's small and the declared value is low. It's not as bad as it used to be but stuff still disappears in the postal system.
