Gary, you need a 22mm socket or closed end wrench, then you need a factory toolkit tool that has a C cut-out on the end, with two welded on pegs that go through the pully holes. This tool holds the assembly in place while you use the 22mm to loosen the nut. Looking at the pic, I'd say the nut has been rounded off and is corroded into place. Soak with PB blaster before trying to loosen it, and then I still wish you lots of luck. I'm hoping somebody else will weigh in with a pic of the proper tool. I don't have one on file.

Do yourself a favor and order a new nut when you order the belt... You may end up using a small pipewrench on that mess. IF you can get a socket to fir it an impact driver will get it also. Take the advice of SOAKING t for a couple days 1st tho..

Thanks for the response guys!
The car has been sitting since last november. Once I got it started, noticed the red light on. Pulled over and saw the belt was loose. The car is a '69 but not the original motor. Gary R. any pics of your '78 track car? My wife has a '78 SC and drives it everywhere. 151,000 miles.

a pair of large channel-locks work in a pinch. carefully grab the outer edges of the pulley to hold it from turning as you crank on the nut. here's hoping it's the belt, not the alternator. the belt has to be pretty loose to cause slippage sufficient to cause the light to stay on. can you turn the fan easily by hand?

You may want to add some PB Blaster to that nut a day ahead, repeatedly.

Gary R. Look forward to seeing the pics of your '78. Drop them in an email when you get some later this month.

Yelp the fan is pretty easy to turn by hand. But then when you got a grip that would drop a Blacksmith to his knees in envy... well nuff said? Just kidding, kinda. Read that descrip-tion once in Readers Digest. Gary C.
