Shops in Austin
I did a search but didn't turn up much.
I just moved to Austin and wanted some suggestions on both repair and body shops in the area. This will be for both the 911 and the M3. I will be doing a complete suspension upgrade on the 911 soon, and will need a shop to align things when I'm done. There's also some minor paintwork issues. Also, how about a powder coating shop? I have some suspension and engine parts I'd like to have done. thanks! Frank

I have my 911 at a shop called TPWS (http://www.tpwsinc.com/index.htm). He only does Porsche from all I know. Right now is the first time I've had my car in a shop (only had it a little over a month).
There's a shop on Burnet at Braker that does European imports. I can't remember what they're called, tho.

I used Moorespeed for a PPI and was very happy with him. The car's owner wasn't though. You should go to the PCA website, find out what Region Austin is in and then contact one of the folks listed. I'm sure that they will be glad to help you out and welcome you to Austin.

for alignment, I used SoulSpeed with good results. Pretty decent price too. Bill Kim is the owner, a PCA member, and a BMW guy. Not sure what type of work (besides alignments) they do. Here's a link to their website: http://www.soulspeed.com/

HI Frank,
Welcome to Austin. There are some great shops that have already been mentioned. You can sign up for the email list through the HCRPCA on the link above. We have a good group here. There is a small group of us that met on Pelican that go on drives freqently. send me an email and I can add you to the list. I too have been to SoulSpeed. Bill is great, he does alignments and tire installations as well as track inspections. I have my own PC setup. Cost is real reasonable and is based more on prep work than the coating process. Send me an email or PM if you are interested.

I use Scotts ********. Scott is one of the best around,
TPWS and Moorespeed are also good shops. I'd recommend you visit some shops and see what looks good and talk to the owners. I live in Louisiana, 7 hours from Austin....Nobody but Scott touches my car ! Scott also does track support for his customers. Good Luck and Enjoy Austin ! Chuck |

Thanks to everyone who has responded. I've checked out the websites listed, and will swing by all the shops once I get the 911 over here from Houston (yes, that's in east Texas
. From the links, Moorespeed looks very nice - but hopefully not too expensive (usually F-cars = $$$). I like shops where the owners don't mind you milling around looking at interesting projects they have going on, or will allow you to check out the bottom side of your car while they have it on the lift for some service. And ones that will work with you if you want to perform some of the work yourself, but then bring it in for some final tweaks that you can't do at home. I usually will order my parts through a shop that works with me like this to allow them to make at least some $ on the parts in addition to the final work. Since I have Webers on my 2.7, a shop with carb knowledge would be nice as well.I also need to change my PCA region from LSR to HCR. Just to clarify, I wasn't really looking for shop that serviced both Porsche and BMW. In fact, I prefer shops that specialize in a specific marque. But if I could find a reputable one that did both, well, that would make my life a little less complicated.
