too lean or too rich?

So far so good for my '77 2.7 cis "MM" engine. I have almost 2,000 miles on it and many at 5,000+rpm. However, after the engine cools down, it doesn't want to start. It 'seems' like it isn't getting fuel or? It feels like I should 'pump' the gas pedal. (I know) It cranks over very fast, and after a while it almost wants to start, but doesn't quite make it. Is there a step by step elimination procedure that would lead to the problem?

You probably have the common hot start problem because residual pressure is bleeding off your fuel system due to a leaking check valve, fuel accumulator or injectors.

Do a search, there are a bunch of threads on cold start and hot start problems. Could be a problem with your WUR, check valve, fuel accumulator, etc. You may start by checking the cold pressure of your WUR, to eliminate that possibility. Normally the WUR can cause cold start problems.

I searched and found some great discussion and learned what WUR stands for. However, 1) where is the darn thing, and 2) how does one know if it is broken, and 3) which way do you turn it?

Oh boy...do you have a lot to learn ;) no, really, read up on CIS, wish Jim Williams' page...

Do a search on residual pressure.

Ah ha! I found the little bastard as well as the aticles. I'm sure I'll be ready for a quiz in no time. Thanks! (I think)

"so far so good" and "MM engine" in the same sentence? You don't see that every day.

I had/have the same problem. Unfortunately the cause has not yet been totally sorted. Here's my thread..

WUR not it

2 questions:

Well I r&r'd the WUR today, but the car still won't start.

1) So, is there anything else a DIYer can r&r? Or is it time for my mechanic to fix it? I just hate towing it.

2) Do you think it would push start?

Too bad you got put down the wrong path at the start with the WUR, which will really only affect cold starting and running.

Look at the accumulator and fuel pump check valve as mentioned earlier. You will need the fuel pressure gauge to check these properly.
