"Pretend that you're invisible, and everyone in a car knows you're out there somewhere...and they're still trying to kill you." That's damn good advice, and well-put, too. |
|
I drive my truck faster than the Porsche. The car is more of a cop magnet, so I'm usually in the right lane at the speed limit. With the truck, I'm over in the left lane pushing it a bit. With either, always knowing what's going on all around is very important. Became second nature after getting my racing license. |

 yes very differently |

I am very polite, and actually quite slow on the streets in the Porsche. Now, if the road opens, and I am all one.... I fly. I drive like a bat out of hell on the track (with about the same smoothness)! |

he he he...there's a little red guy on my shoulder that appears every time I climb in my 911SC. He quitely whispers to me...faster, faster, faster. |

Hey guys ..! Now that you ask. I noticed that everytime I get in my Porsche I put myself in a defensive/ingnorance mode. Defensive , because of beeing overprotective of my 911, And ignoring the local teen's because almost always they try to street race the 911.. je je VicSmileWavy |
|
Defesive driving when in my 911 *smile* so true Vizail I can't go anywhere in the 911 without some kid in a Honda with a glued on wing wanting to race |
|
Defensive driving is waiting for someone to hit you. Waiting. I like to refer to this as offensive driving. If I think I am going to get hit, I always look for a way to zoom out of harms way. I always keep an eye out for an opening and I always make sure I have one. My mother drives defensively. Thats the problem. You need to drive offensively. |
|
True offensive driving is using the preemptive strike. Pull alongside an SUV on the highway and turn 90 degrees into it behind the rear wheel. It will go into a spin around you and you can keep on straight down the road, if executed correctly! |

Hehe, good one. I'll remember that on my drive home tonight. :) Interesting to see that we share a lot of the same habits/techniques. |

 yes, i am erect. |

My driving habits in the 911 are not to go over 5 MPH over the speed limit in fear of the police. I mean, how hard is it to notice a bright red turbo look cabriolet? ;) I LOVE accelerating hard in 1st and 2nd gear though. It satisfies me to leave the other cars in the dust! |
|
I tend to laugh out loud a lot when I'm driving my 911. Never happens in my other car. |
|
I generally drive a bit more cautious in my 911, because I just got it, and it's not in the greatest condition. When I got it, the brakes weren't so good, and the horn stopped working for some reason... then one day, sure enough, dumb lady in a bigass SUV almost came right into my lane through an intersection. DAMN I'm glad the horn decided to work that day!! Now the brakes are rebuilt and flushed, but need another bleeding, and are MUCH better than before. The headlights and horn work, and the signals work after behavior similar to the horn. I need to replace the lense on the passenger side front signal housing and get the lamps working there. Tomorrow, the new ball joints go in the front to hopefully remedy the vibration in the steering wheel. |

I drove faster in the 911. It was damn hard not to. The thing was just so comfortable at 90. Other than that because I was in a sports car and because I was driving fast I kept a really good watch out in all directions at all times. I still watch in all directions, but the miata is more comfy at 80 than 90, so I drive a little slower. |

Kind of sad, isn't it? Truth be known, most of us make better time over the road, in a daily driver than we do in a 911. Why? Lots of factors enter in. The fear of being pranged, the fact that the car is cop bait, insurance rates if you even have one ticket on your record, etc. These factors make me sometimes wonder why I hang on. Then I go for a run...I find a lightly travelled road with twisties, and things come into focus. ;) |

I'll have to say I'm on the agressive side while driving the SC. I drive like it's ment to be driven every time I'm behind the wheel. I enjoy winding it out through every gear and most people just stare in envy as we press the limits of hp and torque. I don't treat the car on the road any different than any car I own, hell, people expect to see you push your Porsche to the red line, so don't be intimidated. Tim (edit) This does not apply to those of you not fortunite enough to live in non-traffic congested areas. In that case I would suggest a Honda Accord type of commuter car (Hybred). |

I guess the gold color with chrome highlights keeps everyone's attention, so I haven't really felt "invisible". I like how I can squirt through holes in traffic if things get too close for comfort however. I actually pay much more attention to my driving because the sensations and sounds of being in the car are so great. I rarely play the radio. |
