Dropping an SC motor, Questions
 

OK, i have to drop my motor over the weekend to fix a few little oil leaks here and there, install my chain tensioners, adjust the valves, new shocks, etc...

What Im wondering is, are there any particular things i need to look out for when dropping the SC motor? I've dropped early CIS engines, but not SC's with all the vacuum lines and such, anything that's easy to forget while doing this?

When I dropped mine recently I forgot the backup lights at the front of the transmission. I didnt actually forget I just couldn't find it and gave up. It is definantly at the "front" of the transmission which I missed. I also forgot one fuel line. No excuse on that one just an oversight. Run your hand around the perimeter of your sheetmetal, after partial drop, and this should be prevented.

The only major difference between your SC and the earilier CIS cars is probably that you have power brakes and need to watch for that one vacuum line. Otherwise, it's just the fuel lines, wiring harness, AC, Cruise... Like said before, just run your hand around looking for things and go slowly.

If you're dropping your tranny at the same time, just watch out for those reverse lights & speedo and don't bend the shift coupler. Disconnect your rear sway bar.

I haven't droped my SC engine before, but I have read the exploits of many on here who have. There are some threads in which the engine dropper has gone into very explicit detail. You should definitely find one of those. Reading them almost convinced me I could go out and drop the engine just for fun!

The checklist provided in the engine drop tech article worked quite well for me.

My drop deviated some by taking the engine and trans out together. I believe it is much easier to get back in. So, if you take the trans out, you'll also need to disconnec the shift linkage, half sharfts at the trans, and clutch cable. When removing as a unit, the reverse switch light and accelerator linkage from the trans to the engine throttle linkage can stay connected. Otherwise, the checklist items I beleive named all the other disconnects. When lowering, drop the floor jack an inch or two then check the inside of the engine compartment for things you might have missed. Lower another inch and repeat until you are sure all disconnects are done.

I plan on dropping both the engine and tranny together.

Right now, i've got a leaking breather cover and I'm pretty sure that the oil cooler seals need to be replaced as well.
