Oil Pressure help needed

Just parked my 82SC up on the drive earlier and noticed that when I revved it, as the revs dropped to idle, the oil pressure light flashed on for a fraction of a second, then off. This is the first time it has done this and continued to do it as I revved it a couple more times. The engine wasn't fully warmed up and what's even weirder is that the oil pressure gauge read approx 1.5 Bar (22 psi) at idle.

I stopped the engine for 1/2 hour or so and then started the engine up again. This time the oil pressure light remained lit when idling, with the oil pressure gauge reading just under 2 Bar (28 psi) at idle. The light will only go out when the gauge pressure exceeds 2.5Bar (thats about 1500 RPM).

Here is the oil pressures from the gauge

idle (just under 1000rpm) - 1.5 Bar
1500 RPM - 2.5 Bar
2000 RPM - 3.5 - 4.0 Bar
3000 RPM - 4.5 - 5.0 Bar

The cars mileage is 120,000 and tha oil was changed just under 12months ago (only done about 1000 miles since then, short journeys though)

So, which is right. Is the gauge or the warning light correct, or both (if thats possible) ???

I hoping that its a faulty oil pressure switch, but would appreciate a second opinion. If it is the switch, where is it and can I replace without removing engine

Your comments would be most appreciated

Thanks

David

start with the oil pressure switch. those tend to malfunction with time.
