Fog lights non-functional

I've had this car for almost a year and am just now trying to fix some of it's minor problems.

One problem is the fog lights don't work. I've checked the bulbs with an ohmmeter and they appear all right, but the lines in the fog lamps never show that they are switched on (no 12 volts). I checked the fog lamp fuse and it appears all right, I've swapped out the fog lamp relay with the horn relay and it appears to work fine.

So the last thing to check is the fog lamp switch. Does anyone know how you remove the fog lamp switch? I looked in the Bentley manual, but it only describes how to remove the headlight switch (which appears to be a different kind of switch than the fog lamp switch).

It looks like I will have to at least remove the radio to get to the switch, but does anyone know if there's an easier way to check the continuity of this switch?

Doug

Canīt help you there, but on my last MoT the guy hits me with -"Everything else is in order but your fog lights doesnīt work".

I go -"Really..? I didnīt know." And I didnīt. I mean I never use them, donīt even know how to switch them on.

Still havnīt fixed them but I am calculating that as this thread fills up I will have all tips I need how to do it.

Before you go that far.....do you realize that some cars are wired so the fogs won't come on unless the parking lights or low beam lights are on first ??

Just asking.....

No, I did not know that and my owner's maunal does not mention it. All it says is that if you turn on the high beams, the fog lights will go out.

So I just went outside and turned on the headlights and tried the fog lights. They came on. $^%$@#(*)& Sorry, I guess I shouldn't get upset when things actually work.

I did notice, however, that they only work when the headlights are on, not when the parking lights are on.

So, does anyone know if the rear windshield wiper has to have some other device activated before it will work?

Cool Fog Light mystery.....

The secret to the fog lights is a small (probably) grey wire that is connected to one of the headlight lowbeam fuses. It is the fog light relay "trigger" wire. If you want the fog lights to come on under other circumstances, you will have to move the fog light relay wire to a switched hot lead. That way, anytime the ignition is on, the foglights will work, but will go off when the ignition is turned off. Hope this helps.

Can't help you on the rear wiper...but yes...stock for USA the low beams need to be on. Do a search on this board with appropriate key words and you will find the *one* wire you need to move over one slot on the fuse box..so the fogs come on with the parking lights (as Euro cars are wired)...and stay on until you turn them off ( meaning...can be used alone with parking lights...with low beams...with high beams).
