1973 MFI Engine Running---Thanks Guys!
We successfully started our 1973 P911T MFI today. We could not have done it without the help of the members on this board, and we want to say a big THANK YOU.
The car is a barn find that hadn't run since 1990. The engine was stuck when we got it. We've been working on the car for about a year. When we started, we didn't even know how to jack up the car. Using the information on the board and your responses the our (sometimes unsophisticated) posts, we unstuck the engine, restored the fuel tank inside and out, replaced all the fuel hoses, front and rear (except cold start), fiberglassed and reinstalled the original wood floor board, cleared out the rodent nests in and around the alternator shroud, and found the places where the mice chewed through the wires. We fixed the short circuits, even a hard to find one in the clock using the method we learned on this board-- isolating each circuit one at a time by by pulling fuses and looking for changes on a test lamp in series with the battery. We especially want to thank Sherman, who spent a couple of hours with us explaining how the MFI worked and showing us how to free-up the pedal assembly and the link between the pedal and the bell crank. Without his help, we'd still be working on the MFI. Thanks to our host for his books and for stocking most of the parts we've needed. Now we'll move on to the wheels and brakes. Hopefully we'll have it ready for low-speed test drive in early June. We'll let you know how it drives! |
Congratulations. Your tenacity is rewarded.
