Who has solid motor mounts?

Just installed the billet solid motor mounts in my SC yesterday. Didn't have time for a test drive, but just wondering what to expect. I know they make shifting crisper in the 993. How about in an SC?

Sport mounts at the trans and solids at the rear. Wouldn't have it any other way.

How much do sport tranny mounts run? Are they easy to install?

Are solid motor mounts less effective when used in a cab?

I have solid mounts - and in a hollowed out coupe. Probably the best investment I've made in the car. Tightened up shifting and handling, and with no adverse effects to any componentry (that I know of).

I strongly suggest getting solid mounts. I was having problems downshifting from 5th to 4th, sometimes nicking reverse, and once getting the tranny into 2nd. I thought I needed gate shifters and stuff, but once I changed the shift bushing and added solid mounts, everything improved dramatically. It was like a whole new gearbox.

DD74, did you use the solid mounts on just the tranny, or the motor too?

I used sport motor mounts at the transmission & solid mounts at the rear for awhile. It definitely improved shifting a little compared to the worn stock mounts that were in there previously. I found the rear solid mounts to be very 'buzzy' though & switched them to new sport mounts, which transfer less sound to the cabin. Shifting seems equally precise. Anyhting is probably an improvement over 20 - 30 year old stock rubber mounts.

I have the solid/sport combo.

More vibration but not intolerable.

Shifting really did not improve all that much but the car drives a LOT better.

Handling is definately better, car does not feel "disconnected" from the drivetrain.

Low speed/rolling in traffic is much improved.

Trade off to me is worth it.

Jasper - is there much vibration with solid mounts in the tranny? I've been thinking of solid transmission mounts as well. Did it improve your shifting?

Hi Mike - just the motor. I'm actually inquiring about the tranny mounts with Jasper (from several posts above)?

Hey dd - I have sport mounts (aka cab mounts) at the trans. Solids at the motor only. I was told the solid trans mounts make for all the noise, but only part of the crisp shift benefits. Kinda like and 80/20 rule. I've never tried this, or rode in anything so quipped.

The solid mounts at the motor on the other hand made a big difference in feel (throttle response and shifting) but the noise didn't increase much. Now I gotta say at the time I was tearingout some interior stuff, and soon after I installed a monster motor so as we speak it's REAL loud in teh car...but not because of the motor mounts. Another point for us carb guys is that Richard Parr (PMO builder) warns strongly against solid mounts on carbureted cars. I aven't noticed a probem.

I just put new sport mounts on the motor, maybe I'm going to get some solids for back there, and put the sports on the tranny...

Who's changed mounts without dropping to motor? Can you just lower the motor and then the tranny ( at seperate times ) to change? Or, do you need to get a little more involved?

I have sports on the tranny and solids on the motor. I will be going to WEVO mounts in the rear. Finding the solids to be a little harsh.

Will your solids fit on the transmission mounts? If so, I'll take them off your hands, Jeff.

Concidering that stock mounts don't allow much forward or rotational engine movement I think the 'crisper shifting' beliefs are pure placebo.

I noticed an immediate difference, unless my right hand is suceptible to placebos.

BAD idea. David, you won't be able to hear yourself think, and you will worrry that the car is coming apart. Solid mounts at the motor are fine, but at the tranny, they are incredibly noisy!

The shifter hand, much like the butt dyno, is a very subjective instrument.

I have a very objective butt, thank you very much.

Tyson - good points, I'm sure, on top of all the other little rattles that come with a hollowed-out car, I would worry. Question is, can the solid transmission mounts hurt the car? Are sport mounts a better alternative? Or would you leave as is?
