solve my problem win a prize.
Just the facts. If you are the one I decide was most helpful in solving my problem, I'll send you a little something. If you need to know additional details you can request my 732 page list of rules. (am I opening myself up to lots of smarta@@ comments here?)
My car stalled a while back, and wouldn't restart. 1978 930 turbo. I have no spark. No power to the coil + side. My cd box ( bench tested 2 months ago) whines, my coil and distrib where both pulled and bench tested ok. Wires tested from the cd box end to end checked out ok. Discon tach wire, no change. Green distrib wire was replaced a month ago. Game on. |
Ground. One of the 1,000,000 ground wires on your car. What do I win? Enough to fix my #$#%&%$^ CIS system?????
PS. Did trhat sound sarcastic? :) |
ok, we have player #1 up. unfortunately you didn't read page 701 of the rules. sarcastic answers not allowed.
|
If I apologize can I still play. I really need my CIS fixed.
|
ok, and as I consolation prize I'm going to drive up and give you the keys to the black GT2 I saw at Patrizio's last night. Really, they left them in it. As for ground, I've checked the strap at the tranny, the coil wire ground, distrib, cd box strap, plug wires ground. Where next?

CD boxes can whine just fine and still produce no spark. get a loaner from someone to test. a 6 pin permatune will work as well.
|
Thanks John, you've been helpful before, I'll get it tested.

We replaced a CD box this last Friday on a SC. It whined but it didn't work. We replaced it and it started right up. |
The ground could be in the wiring harness.

Check that the ignition relay is seated properly in the engine compartment. I had a similar problem in that the square relay behind the plastic shroud at the left of the engine bay had vibrated loose and cut the ignition. I simply pushed it back in and the car ran fine.
|
if the CD whines, that means it is at least getting power.
|
Check the shutdown relay located directely behind the CD box . You can jump the terminals as a temperary bypass . Its an aluminum rectangle shape relay about half the size of a pack of cigerettes.

That was the relay I was talking about it is the one that delays the ignition cut after the ignition is turned off. I believe that switching the ignition off cuts the fuel pumps and this relay keeps the ignition working for a short period to burn any unused fuel out of the CIS.
|
No steve the relay im talking about cuts the ignition out .

Sorry Kurt I edited my post while you were posting. I had originally said the relay delays cutting the fuel, but as you pointed out it actually delays the ignition cut.
|
I had already checked, and jumped the relay. I had my cd box tested a couple months ago when I was having other trouble, so I considered it unlikely to be the problem this time. Now however, after all the troubleshooting I have done, i'm starting to believe it might be the problem. I was mistaken in thinking that if it whines it works.

Final answer is the cd box is not working. John Walker is our winner. Send me your address and I will send your gift. Brian

it's at the bottom of my posts.

resistor on the LH rear power panel
|
It was the cd box. I had it checked before, but this time it's gone for good. John Walker will receive something in the mail in a week or so. Thanks to everyone for helping. Can anyone help our little buddy Westy with his CIS?
