Porsche Crest Fresh air blower motor

When the lever B is in the extreme right position I should have maximum ventilation (ignition key to ACC) and hear the blower motor. Right?

Well, I don't hear anything. The only thing is that the ventilation sign is lit in position I en II (engine off). It is out in position III (engine off) and when I start the engine it doesn't light in position I, II and III.

So far the only thing I've checked is the fuse which is OK.

Please help.

What is (could be) wrong?

Kees.

I'm curious as well as I have the same issue. Maybe bad motor?

Free bump.....

or maybe the switch or fuse or...

trying hot wiring the motor to make it come on to help troubleshoot

but 1st push the lver over and get out and open the hood, stick your head near the blower - maybe it is a real quiet one...

Yours should be like mine - one lever on top. And it should come on and it makes a lot of racket.

If you need a new blower, I have two.

I believe there is also a relay involved here. check the wiring diagram

I had the same symptoms, it was a bad motor.

If you remove the cover in the trunk and disconnect the connector from the motor you can check if you have everything works up to the motor.
The connector have (IIRC) 4 pins, 1 12 volt and 3 others. The others connects to ground depending on which fan speed is selected (only one of the 3 to ground at the same time).
If everything checks out its the motor. A new one is about $100 (I think) if you cant get it rebuilt, I bought one directly from a Bosch dealer.

I'm not certain the thread involved the blower motor, but there was a thread within the last year or so by someone who fixed something in his ventilation system with a motor from www.grainger.com. Apparently is was a LOT less expensive than the factory part, and not too difficult of a job. IIRC it was the blower motor, but I'm not sure. Do a search if you're interested.

replaced my wiper washer valves about a year ago..disconnected the blower ducting to gain access..didn't feel air coming from my blower the next time i used it..checked fuses..hmm? ohhhhhhhhh..the ducting was still disconnected, forgot to reattach. check for continuity of your ducting unless yours has worked fine in the past and you haven't done work up front lately..

My 70 does the same thing, I believe it is actually the contacts in the controller. My motor runs when jumped to all three motor speed contacts. Easy to pull the bits and pieces to check, just takes time.

fwiw.. I believe my yr doesn't have a fuse on that motor. I haven't gott'en around checking and adding a fuse yet.

If I'm right it's a real bad circuit design without one.

Porsche Crest fresh air blower motor

Thanks to all of you.

I checked everything and I'm sure the motor passed away.

Kees.

I just did this repair and it wasn't too difficult. However, I noticed something very Porsche about the control units with the two upper levers. One would think that the "A" (left) lever would control the amount of fresh vs. recirculated air, but it doesn't. It controls two "flappers" that regulate the amount of air, but they are after the blower fan. So if you run the fan (B lever to right) and have the "A" lever to the left you are just blowing air at the closed flapper valves. I thought that was odd if not a useless, redudant control. Just my opinion, I am sure the Porsche climate control engineers had a reason

Nope, the Porsche doesn't recirculate any air. The A lever just regulates the amount of fresh air. Going at highway speeds you usually don't need the fan at all.
If only I had known when I bought my Porsche that I could shut off the fresh air with that lever. A 32 mile ride in December and no working heat is not recommended....

Edit: December in Sweden means below freezing temperatures.
