Oh, RoninLB, please tell me if I am clear on this. Mix my Chromoclear with the 7985S (activator), 1 for 1 and let sit for an hour. After the hour, get the gun up to 90 PSI and shoot the imperfections. How long between coats?

mix the activator as per instructions. Give it time to kick off. Use retarder or thinner or whatever you call it till it's 50/50 whatever/clear.

this will produce a super thin fluid. Test set your gun's fan and volume at 90psi. You only shoot one double coat. Set the fan wide and narrow it down just below the wide. Start testing the volume by holding the gun 1ft away from flat test surface and quickly/1sec trigger it. Finish this at a point just below where it runs. Always move to a bare test surface.

The purpose is to only fill in the sanding scratches, not to add clear thickness.

I'd sand with 600 w&d first, then 1,000. We would like to avoid sanding later. Any dust that settles comes righ off with a foam pad machine and polish. ie: I start with Mcguires #5

For entertainment the below pic has no clear and no wax. It's about 5yrs old as per the rust on the wheel well. It was parked outside 24/7/365 at my home, work, etc in salt air.

Thanks for the explanation. A lot of the lingo is above my understanding

"Use retarder or thinner or whatever you call it till it's 50/50 whatever/clear."

Does it matter the thinner. Does it need to be a Dupont product?

"You only shoot one double coat. Set the fan wide and narrow it down just below the wide."

Lost me on the double coat and narrow it down just below the wide. No idea what they mean.

Thanks.

use only Dupont thinner. The books may call it retarder?

Start your adjustment with a wide fan. Narrow the fan from very wide till it just starts to narrow down a bit. After the fan adjustment at 90psi you set the volume.

You hold the gun the 1ft distance and quickly pull the trigger on a bare flat surface. Start at a point where it runs. Then lower the volume to where the runs stop with a quick trigger pull. You do not move the gun for this.

the double coat it when shooting the car. Meaning you do one pass and immediately go over that pass again. Keep the gun at 90deg to the surface.

this will dry very fast. Keep you eyes on the fan as it's hitting the surface. Let your eyes dictate your speed. Learn that it takes a few seconds for the initial shoot to come together. The inclination is to shoot to wet. Look a few seconds into the future.
