Angry Bleed Nipple for Brakes

I went to bleed the breaks the other day on my 83SC as I have no record on when the fluid was changed last. Breaks seem ok but are a little spungy.

Jacked up the rear of the car to access the bleed nipples on each side. The problem is that I cant get the bleed nipple undone on both sides. When I try to remove it I feel like I will start to round off the nut. I didnt want to round it off so I stopped.

I was thinking of spraying them with some penetrant then getting some vice grips on them. Obviously this will destroy them so they will need replacement. I am thinking of replacing them with speed bleeders when I get it out.

I am hoping this will work as I dont want to remove the complete break assembly to get them out.

Any thoughts????

6 pt. box wrench or deep socket? Anything else and it fits too loose; encouraging roundedness.

Were you able to get any of them off?
IIRC, One turns one way, one the other...be gentle.

Couldn't get either of the back ones off. I made sure that I turned them anti-clockwise on each side. I didn't check the front as I gave up to regroup. Also noticed that the one of the CV boots was ripped and grease was sprayed under the car. Another project to tackle.

I was using a 7 mm open ended spanner (wrench) on the nipples as the ring part wouldn't fit in there. However, on closer inspection the RHS bleeer appeared to be smaller than the 7mm spanner, looked like 6.5mm (6mm spanner was too small).

I might try a socket on it next time after I spray it with penetrant.

I just want to avoid making the problem worse and having it off the road for longer than required.

You already know that you're not putting those back on, so order speed bleeders now.

In my limited experience, this is really where good tools make a difference. Get some quality flare nut wrenches and soak in penetrant. If you bugger it up, get the vise grips or even a small pipe wrench.

I don't see why you couldn't put a little heat on it too.
