I was thinking about buying this. Anybody ever seen this ebook on Garage building? Is it any good? Claims to give you all the information you need to subcontract out your own garage. Less money spent on a garage means more money for cars, tools, and upgrades.

I've been in construction 20+ years, hard to believe he can get all of that information in 100 pages.

I think you can probably get more help here. Search the board, there have been quite a few extensively documented garage projects. IMO the hardest part is getting through the plan/permit stages.

If you need an architect, try to get a 'car guy' so he understands if you want to put in a lift, etc.

For subcontractors, I usually try to get recommendations from the local supply houses. For example, the local concrete plant or mason supply are in a position to recommend competent, financially stable masons. Same for Lumberyards/framers etc.

You may also be able to get recomendations from the local building department.

Thanks guys. These are just the kinds of ideas I am looking for. I'll also go back to review several of the other garage threads on Pelican yet again.

I just got an offer on my house this past weekend(agonizing 10 days on the market ;) and we will be looking for a new place soon. Right now I am the guy with the most cars at our apartment complex(5) and I just purchased number 6( a Miata that needs a new engine for $300, I couldn't resist). So far I have avoided trouble by keeping one in a garage and having the others spread out. It's gonna get tougher now that I have to empty the garage at my old house.

I plan to find a house with a garage or a place to build a garage and hope to verify that I can build one before I buy the place. I am looking for ideas and gotchas ahead of time so I can hopefully build my dream garage. I cannot afford to do it all at once, but want to build the starting point with extras I can add later with minimal cost, ie gas lines for heater, possibly plumbing for a bathroom and/or a drain in one bay, etc. I want to build the base right and then tweak it later.
