I'd say that was just a little dangerous.
Not only to your ears but if that one let go would the people around not be risk from flying debris?

Pretty amazing though. Thanks!

Good God.

Sounds like 2 cats under the window on a hot summer day.......

I guess they stand behind their work.

Oh, I am sure every F1 team stands behind their work. Parts or designs no matter how well they are designed do fail. Wheels do fall off, and tires burst, rods are thrown. The whole clip just seemed kind of careless to me.
:(

Maybe a little careless, but pretty awesome!!

Geronimo '74 05-16-2005 02:45 AM

Awesomely stupid, you would think safety is a big issue in their line of work.
But very impressive revving, nonetheless.

Geronimo '74 05-16-2005 02:46 AM

The guy standing to right of the engine is
A: very deaf
B: using very good quality earplugs...

Take your pick

I would have liked to have seen a rod fly out and hit one of those idiots...

Elombard 05-16-2005 07:49 AM

I bet they were well below the operating limit on that. Rediculous no ear plugs though.

Who was it, the Orange/Manardi Team from a couple of years ago? What were they doing? maybe first fire up of the new car at the begining of the season?

TheMentat 05-16-2005 10:29 AM

Considering the fact that those things can run races lasting longer than an hour, with 70% of each lap spent at wide-open-throttle, I'd concur that they were well within operating limits. Didn't sound like they were bouncing off the rev-limiter or anything (or even close to the 17000+ rpm limit for that matter).

Pretty sure that was Tom Walkinshaw's (Orange) Arrows team that folded a few years back.

Why do you think the engine would fail when it was not even being pushed hard?

Besides people stand next to reving f1 cars in the pits at every race and nothing happens
