Question '95 993 should I pull the trigger?

I have a line on a '95 993 with 95K miles. PCA owner. Carfax Fine. Third owner. Recent service up to date. Service history complete until 80K miles. Seller will allow any automotive rectal exam that I want pre-purchase. Wants $26K but has put $6k in recent service (brakes, 30K service, belts and hoses) and 18" tire/wheel upgrade. No leaks, good compression, body/interior excellent.

I am looking to use this about 5,000 miles a year as a knock around car. Tiptronic so my wife can drive it. My '83 911SC with 32,000miles is in concours condition and I get tired of parking in the boondocks every time I go to the market.

Am I nuts for considering a car with this mileage? Is $26K too much? Any good alternatives for a $25K budget?

the 993 should be worth it...I like them so I may be bias with my judgement.

26K is probably a fair price. The Tip- takes some away from it, but not much. For a car that you don't have to park so far from the store's front door...it should be a fine car.....

Jeez, are we jaded or what? 26K for a well maintained 993 seems like a pretty darn good deal to me, tip or otherwise. I suppose you could buy a Mini Cooper S or something, but if you're talking Porsche, its difficult to think of a car like that being worth much less than that.

Wow 25-26K you could get it, bring it to Canada and still make 10K on the deal. They are selling high here, but I thing they're worth it.

I would jump all over that if I was in the market. Good price despite the miles.

Beautiful Porsche! I would buy a tip, so my wife could enjoy the P-Car experience from the driver's seat. She's been an enthusiasitic co-pilot for 6 years.

At the 5K miles you estimate putting on each year, you can drive it for 10 years and still only have 145K on the clock...........

I think the tiptronics are sold for considerably less. I do not know for sure what the difference is though. Even if it is as much as 5k, this still seems to be a very reasonably priced 993. You can make the wife happy AND save money. When does that ever happen?

I wonder what happened to the records between 80 and 95k?

I would run this car by the 993 board and also maybe the folk on Rennlist.

Good Luck,

George

Can't she just learn to drive a manual? Can you picture yourself being satisfied with a tiptronic? If so, then go for it. I personally would not buy a car, especially a P-car, with a auto/tiptronic transmission, it takes too much of the pleasure and driver involvement out of it, which is the reason to own a Porsche to begin with. This is the sentiment of the majority of Porsche owners and prospective owners, which is why that 993 is priced so cheap (less demand for the Tip)

If it is as nice as you say, then it sounds like a good deal, even for a Tip.

I think this should be a requirement for anyone that has a driver's license. It is in Germany and all of Europe. I never understood why it seems so gender related in the US?

In the end, if it gets you a 993 and keeps the wife happy who cares? Other folks are stuck with a minivan and a Volvo.

George
