PPI in Tampa

I'm currently looking at an SC in Tampa, and I need to do a PPI.

I think using German Tech in St. Pete might be a little too far...Can anyone recommend something closer?

Many thanks,

Arvin

Of course Craig could probably do a PPI for you - He's just about taken his SC down to bare metal and back...

Yeah, dave white, but with a grain of salt. I've had a potential 993 PPIed by them and they were ragging on minor stuff that I fixed within a week for cheap after buying the car anyway !

OTOH, I don't know any other shop in Tampa... Anyone ? I'll be needing suspension setup on my 73 soon !

Joe at German Tech is worth a trip across the bridge. Straight shooter and he knows these cars very well.

If you are looking for an SC I'd give him a call anyway just to see what might be available from one of his customers.

Chuck

Last time I was there they were doing a motor for this 72S before shipping it to Germany

Thanks for the recommendations.

As a side note, I'm also considering this Carrera in Pinellas Park...

Does anyone here know this car?

Dave White, Dave White, Dave White. Come on the guy drove the Coke car and still holds a lap record at Sebring. NOBODY knows 911's better in the area. Make sure Dave White Jr. does the PPI though.

Dave White went over my 88 Carrera Cab before I bought it from a friend who lives in Tampa. No problems since purchase last July. He did fix oil return lines and do 30k service.

A busy shop with no apparent advertising says a lot for this establishment.

Don't know the car - but 1987 is a great year for a Carrera... on a side note - I don't think that anybody will question Dave's driving ability - or his knowledge of 911's... he is the man. As far as PPI's I have heard of a couple of incidents where they have missed things (hence my; be specific). They are not cheap either... I know of a few items where they have charged double to do vs other shops that I know of... not 30% more - double...

So - that being said - get a quote on a PPI up front. If it's an SC that you are looking at - and I was dead set on buying the car - I would pay to have a valve adjust as part of the PPI to pull the covers and check for broken head studs (especially in the corrosive florida air) if it's a carrera - I'd do the leak down and follow someone driving the car for puffs of smoke when letting the engine decellerate that would indicate valve guide wear. See, I'm getting specific again...

I concur strongly with what Jeremy has said in this thread. I just got my car back from Dave Whites yesterday. They do know P-CARS no doubt. His parts and labor prices are higher compared to Joe’s. PM me if you want some more info. I’d prefer not to swing my lunch box publicly.

Dave or Joe are both great. I owned the Blue 72S in the picture and have sold it to a German out of my collection.

Don't know about Dave White and the lap record at Sebring. Sounds like Dave talking now!!!

Next time you are up toward Joe's shop at German Tech, call me at 403-7664 and I can show you my collection. I am just down the street from Joe's.

Ok, I’ll be rude. We do have an occasional early Sat/Sun Am coffee get together of the Bay area Pelicanites. Sounds like viewing your collection may have some interest to some of us. Don’t feel obligated though. Jeremy or I will PM you the next time we are thinking of having a coffee hour to see if you could do it. Otherwise, back to South Tampa Starbuck’s and all the girl eye-candy we encountered at the last one we had a few weeks ago – oh darn!

It might not be my collection you have heard about. Just so happens that on the same street, you have two Porsche collections. My collection and another of Joe's clients.
