Help! I have an exhaust question for my 3.2L 911 Project.

Here's my dilema, I bought a brand new Borla 2-in 4-out which is just awesome, but being that my 3.2 is a 1-in 1-out currently. How do I convert to make my new exhaust fit and work properly? What problems should I expect? I've attached a picture of my new exhaust, has anyone used one and what is your opinion.

Best Regards,

alex

Depending on your needs you (heat or not) you need to get a set of SSI's or just a set of headers. Basically you need 2-out early style exhaust configuration.

But I note you live in CA. and your car is a '76....if you intend to drive on the street you will not even pass the visual part of the smog inspection with this new setup. So you need to consider if you want to remove/replace the original exhaust setup every 2 years in order to pass smog - if it still will with all the other mods you are doing.

Good Luck!!

Arrow exhaust

From the looks of that muffler it is not meant to be used with the stock heat exchangers. You need to drop the existing 3.2 setup and get either ssi's or headers.
I suppose its possible to plum the 3.2 exchangers to the left inlet of you new muffler and plug the right inlet but that would defeat the purpose of the 2in-2out muffler.

Jt,

Your right, I did consider that but I did not want to defeat the purpose of the dual-in dual-out system. Can I still accomodate a CAT?

Best Regards,

Alex

The exhaust weighs about 20-lbs rounded up.

If you run a cat, both banks are routed into one collector and through one cat. No twin cat setup I know of. And even if it existed, it would not pass visual.

You need SSI or bare headers to run this muffler. You will not pass smog with that setup. You should exchange the muffler for a one in 4 out to make it work on the street.

Hope this helps.

Johnny's right about CA checking for originality of you exhaust system. I chose not to modify my 3.2 exhaust, other than bypass pipe, because of emissions checks; the pipe goes in/out fairly easily. Some systems incorporate cats but I'm pretty sure the ssi's don't though. All the 3.2 setups I've seen either stay stock with cat/bypass pipe or go the ssi/headers without cat.
The lightest solution would be simple headers for sure but the car would have no heat.

Thank you all for your feedback, I do not want to loose my heating system and maybe I will just sell the exhaust. Is it true that some 3.2's have past smog in CA without a CAT or is that just hype? What single in dual out is recommended?

Best Regards,

Alex

Alex:

I doubt any 911 engine will pass the new smog 2 on the tread mill without a cat. If you hear that they passed without cat, it probably was in the old days where there was just an idle test.

Unless you run the car in competition, I recommend that you go with the stock heat exchangers / headers and add a 1 in 2 out or 1 in 1 out. You can do a search for mufflers, there is more opinions that mufflers out there. I like my Dansk.
