Shift Rod Coupler Bushing need help!

Okay so I got the bushing kit from pelican parts, got the ball cup and shift rod bushing installed with ease. Now the shift rod coupler is a different story. I got the old ones out, put now how in the world do you put the new ones on. I can't get the middle part out I've tried removing the pin but no luck. I have a 1966 911 with the 901 tranny. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

You have to remove the pin to separate them to install the new bushings. I used a twenty ton press to press mine out(a69) Fortunately if you break it a whole new assembly is not that expensive. If you do not have access to a press or can rig one with a hydralic jack, go to a machine shop and they will press it out for you for a few bucks. Good luck.

You can probably do it in a vice using a socket on the back side and short pin on the other side to "press" it out.

A floor jack under a heavy car will serve as a press in a pinch. The 911 may be too low though. Try to apply the pressure to the center shaft where the pin is pressed in and not the outside coupler which holds the bushings. They have been known to break,

I used this method about a week ago. I used a socket small enough to sit entirely on the head of the pin on one side, and a socket large enough for the pin to slide into (but sit only on the bushing, not on the aluminum coupler) on the other.

Placing the larger socket on a table and tapping the smaller one with a hammer got the pin most of the way out. Vice grips, after enough of the pin was exposed to grab onto, removed it the rest of the way.

You can also use a socket and a large C clamp if you don't have a vise. Whatever you do don't try to knock it out with a hammer. Some have had success but most will break it. If you know someone at a local garage they'll probably be happy to press it out and back in for you for a couple of bucks. Once the pin is out it literally will take 1 minute to pop out the old bushing and pop in the new ones and be ready to press the pin back in.

you guys know you can make your own press with a bottle jack and a strong frame - esp. you welders out there...

Shift coupler

Did you know that the pin on some of the OEM couplers are slightly conical shape. They only remove to one side. If you press from one side and it goes in less than a 32" and binds...press from the other side.

The Sockets and a larger vice is the ticket - if you don't have access to a press.

If you do bust the yoke give me a PM and I can get you just the outer part for a real good price.
