MYSTERY~!! What's with the fueling?

1980 911SC
EVERY-TIME I try to fuel this beast, at ANY fuel pump - whether the newest best state-of-the-art pump or any old pump, the same results:

Completely intermittent to barely able to squeeze the pump trigger before the trigger 'falls thru'. Various techniques with very little success: fueling nozzle all the way in and partially in; barely squeezing the trigger and carefully squeezing the trigger.

Anything more than barely will ALWAYS result in trigger fall thru and pumping being stopped.

It's taking me 30 minutes to fill the tank!!

(I've only had this beast long enough to go thru 3 tanks...).

Fuel Tank and/or fueling neck not grounded?
Or What????

Any experience with this?

Jim

Try the search button but I think alot of guys turn the pump handle upside down. I, on the other hand, have never encountered a problem refueling. I just insert the nozzle leaving it about half way out. Hope this helps out.

I do the same as Wayne, only put the nozzle about half way in.

Nozzle half way in, boot not sealed around filler neck.

Half way in...nope - no sucess with that either...

So, any engineer types want to hazard a physical reason for this manifestation?

Try only placing the tip of the nozzle in the neck of the gas filler neck--just barely enough not to spill gas, then modulate the gas flow starting at just a trickle and see how much she can take. Mine gave me fits but now fills easily for some reason.

Think of the design.

Basically the filler tube bends away from you, the bend is opposite of what it is in most cars. I flip the hose around and have no issues.
