OCD, Island's tools & Valve adjustment
When I did a valve adjustment yesterday (my 4th) I decided to be a bit more aggressive. Instead of adjusting so the the feeler blade would slide very easily through the gap (on the grounds that too loose is safer than too tight), I did it so that there was more resistance to sliding the blade.
Maybe it is placebo effect, but the engine sounds a lot better, with much less mechanical noise. Also seems to accelerate faster. I also made first use of Island's 2nd version of his valve adjustment tool. I now have all three: the standard short one with the U shaped handle and the 2 versions of Island's tool. I made use of all three. The standard one has the blade at about a 45 degree angle to the handle, Island Mk 1 at about 60 degrees and Island Mk 2 sets the blade at 90 degrees. One of them would always work at whatever angle necessary. Unfortunately, I never remember that the oil comes out of the tank faster than it can drain into the hole in the top of my holding pan.
