Uneven rotor wear
Started tearing into '70T front brakes, both calipers had stuck pistons which created uneven rotor wear...one side looks like they wore more than the other side due to stuck piston. Both rotors are with in wear limits and in decent looking shape but the vent holes are closer to one side than the other. Are the rotors shot?? Thanks, Biff

Sometimes the vents can be slightly off center with no disasterous results. The pistons will find center. But, the one side can't be too thin.
What I would do is calcualte the min wear thickness, subtract the average width of the vents and divide by two. If the thin side is thinner than the figure you come up with, then it's too thin, IMO. Rotors are not that expensive and neither is my advice. ![]() ![]() |

Zeke,
Your right I guess I should just replace them. The pair of fronts are only $100. But you know it all adds up...$100's turn into $1000's turn into $10,000's....by the time your done with these cars you got 5 times into them than what they are worth, but we all know thats not what we do this for! |
