Does anybody know what the thread pitch & diameter for the trombone cooler connector is, I'm putting an after market cooler on & have to have some lines made up.

They are 30mm...you either get an adapter from 30mm to AN fitting and make them up that way or find some used Porsche ones and take them to a hydraulic line shop and they can rebuild them to your specs.
Pegasus and BAT Inc sells the adapter fittings...not cheap. I have some left over if you need them. I also have some old oil lines that you can rebuild if you wan't to go that way. OR...you can buy them new.....bring soap. Unless of course the aftermarket cooler has AN fittings.... ![]()

The cooler has 3/4-16 male, I know I need 2 90 degree swivel elbows for the cooler. I need something for the 30mm, what do you have? send some pics or? I am interested. Let me know. You say middle CA, we may be close. Thanks MikeZ!!

I'm in Santa Barbara....I have 30mm female to -10AN male. You then reduce it further or use -10 and then put a 90 on it with braided line. BAT Inc and Pegasus carry those as well or any marine specialty store.

Educate me a little, I'm not up on the AN sizing thing, would that be 30mm female to male? not sure what the 10,12AN sizes are.

12 is smaller than 10....the BAT Inc site has a good fitting chart....

The barb of the 30 mm metric fittings are a perfect slip-fit inside AN-16 hose ... after the crimp rings are cut off. One of the short tubing-to-Carrera cooler hoses is a good source for two 30 mm fittings.

Are you sure about that, Mike?
-3 brake line -4 oil and fuel pressure lines/gauges -6 are about 3/8" lines -8 are about 1/2" lines -10 are about 5/8" lines -16 are about 30 mm -12 is not on any of my cars, but I bet its between the others in order.

Maybe I was thinking steel gauge....one of them, the thicker the smaller number....

Guys
After looking at BAT it appears that my cooler has 8AN male fittings (3/4-16 thread w/a 3/8 hole) is this going to restrict the oil flow to much? This is for street only no track. thanks |

AN-8 is DEFINITELY TOO SMALL to run in the scavenge circuit of a 911 engine, even for the street!!! The smallest generally recommended is AN-12, and that size hose or fitting is still putting quite a strain on the scavenge pump and intermediate shaft! The use of 90° adapters in a custom installation, combined with AN-12 hose and fittings ... is a potential nightmare situation involving wearing out the intermediate shaft bearings, followed by siezed oil pump, broken intermediate shaft ... resulting in total engine destruction!

Stay with minimum -12 hose/fittings and try to avoid 90º bends in anything for the cooling system. Sherwood |

I used -16 fittings in a custom a installation for about 3000k of hard driving... so far.. no death and destruction. I do believe if you used fittings that have hard L,U, orJ shaped corners, rather than fittings that have smooth bends.. you could asking for trouble

You have me concerned. I would have though 90 degree adaptors built by reputable hardware mfgs (Earl's, Aerquip, etc) would account for the increased strain on pumps and built the adaptors so as not to cause reduced fluid flow (maybe oversizing them relative to the braided line). I bought my cooler from TRE (was made byBAT and is their 72 row) and was told I could run -16 lines, but that the cooler itself was the bottleneck with -12 lines, so I was just spending good money after no additional performance. I'm not blaming anyone, but would like to hear more of your valuable opinion and how you acquired it. Are there threads where you learned of this? Thanks very much, Doug
