largest fuch rims for 1965

What's the widest rim that'll fit without changing the fenders?

6's without a doubt, and 7's with a little finesse.

I'm pretty sure the widest is the 7 R. Has enough offset. Otherwise 6's with 195's

You can have custom fuchs made from deep 6s that will result in a 7R offset, but come to a little wider than 7.25". I have heard Harvey Weidman will make them for you. Apparently this will allow mounting of 225 rubber under the rear of a narrow, unrolled lip car with about 2 degrees of negative camber.

Even if you could...please don't do this. The early body style is stunning... Have some 6's widened to 7's, and then you can run 225's. I am, with no clearance issues, and that's plenty enough rubber for the road...I've got a 2.7 twinplugged dyno'd to 240. I think the "sleeper" look is perfect for these older cars.

regards,
Eric

Roman, I'm with Eric on this one. My car had RS flares added to it by a PO. It looks sharp, but there is a part of me that wishes I were hiding that rubber underneath flat fenders. The cost of adding flares (welding, paint, etc.) isn't going to be cheaper than widening the wheels, so SERIOUSLY consider going this route versus permanently modifying another narrow bodied beauty. You'll get all of the performance, plus the 'wow' factor of some seriously cool and unusual wheels.

Eric, I can't wait to see the "secret" wheels you just had built by Harvey.

Thanks for the info. I just want to have enough rear tire on the road to be able to handle the 3.0. It's carbed right now with one zenith and one weber. (ask the PO) I'd like to do PMO's and am going to have some Lexan windows, so the little thing is going to be quick.

I really want to do a 67 911R replica but wanted to add a front oil cooler also, so was thinking about the '73 RS bumper.

You could get more than adequate oil cooling with front fender mounted oil coolers at both corners, thus maintaining the clean look of the SWB. The 3.2 cars did this with great success. There are always ways around doing something you might not like later.

I just added a front cooler, used Elephant racing lines (painted barbeque black!), looks very "purposeful" on the car, and cooled the engine down significantly. Mounted the cooler up in the passenger front fender.

you could also run twin coolers behind the horn grilles. Mercedes transmission coolers work well.
