Seats for the "not so thin"?
 

I'm getting a T!!! I'm trading my Boxster for cubby911T's 1970 911T. Of course, there are a couple of things that I'll want to do to it, but the first thing is I need new seats! He just installed beautiful Corbeau seats, but they're too thin for my 38" waist and they punch me in the lower back a bit! I can squeeze into them, but obviously for the long run, that won't work.

Sooo...anybody have any recommendations on decent seats for the not so thin? I'm not looking to spend a lot of money right now, but I certainly will pay for decent seats. Any suggestions?

Anybody know about those Recaros? They look like they have more room for me.

FYI my Boxster seats are a little snug, but overall very comfortable for me. If that helps clarify my size...

(Oh, and please, I AM trying to lose weight - 12 lbs since Feb - so I'd appreciate restraint from any comments in that dept.! ;) )

Doug, not sure about those seats, but I would suggest whatever seat you are interested in to sit, sit, sit in that seat as many times as possible before buying, as I did. I have heard others complain after buying a seat that they had not sit tested that the seat pinches them in the wrong places (as much as they are liked, SRDs come to mind). Also, I should be going to Speedware soon, so if you want me to check a seat out for you, I would be happy to do so. Good luck!

I love my GTS seats. My borderline 36/38 waist and 6'2" frame fit in them wonderfully. Here's a great thread on these seats, as well as a pic of mine installed:

If you don't need a reclining seat the Sparco Evo 3's have plenty of room.

That said, I'm going to go by Speedware and check out these SE's.

Sorry, I'm not clear as to whether you were asking for race seats or for the street? If the former, the Sparco Evo2 is a very roomy seat.

The Nurburgring seats have a nice snug fit. Jamie Novak just installed some Rallye ST seats from us and he said they felt a bit wider than the Nurburgring's that he replaced.

I'm a big guy myself, about the same size as you it sounds. We took the original seats out of the 69 as they needed recovering and replaced them with the tall all leather sport seats from a mid 80's 944. Very comfortable and they hug nice without being too tight. Plus the all leather keeps the look of the car as the interior is stock. They were pretty much a drop in replacement.

The recaro's might look too "track" in a stock interior but I don't know what you have inside.

Those are WONDERFUL! I've considered those...or at least ones like them. But I'm not sure if I want to invest in anything too expensive right now. The T I'm getting is nice, but far from perfect, so I'm not sure if I want to invest too much into it in case I decide it's really not for me. (..but what are the chances of that?!?!?) Still, I'm hessitant to spend too much on her right now.

I'm looking for a comfortable street seat, but something that would hold in, say, an autoX or a good spirited drive. Other than driving it 300 miles to home, I won't be spending long trips in it...not right away anyway.

I actually have the option of putting the originals back into it, I'd rather not. I'm not looking for originality here...just a good multi-purpose seat.

Oh yeah...these are the seats I'll be replacing. They're nice, and I think they look just fine. But that lower back side bolster just jabs me a little bit too much... :rolleyes:

I drove from San Fran to Seattle in these seats. Both my wife and I thought they were very confortable.

Now we have to get you to move to Eastside with your new 911! :)

Ask Drago about the GTS seats. He sat is Russianblue's over the weekend, so he may have some thoughts on size.

Yeah...nothing has come of that. :rolleyes: But at least now we can begin the saving for "the big move"...whenever that may be.

For me they were a 1.5 cheeker...but I'm bigger than 98.5% of you. ;)

Yes to make a seat that fit's all ...quite a challenge....
The Nurburgring and especially the Rallye ST seat are probably the seat you are more comfartable with.The MonteCarlo tries to make up for the lack of continious support and will apear smaller and less comfortable.We are aware of it and are in the process of making a W... seat the Nurbrugring was so far the most seat by owners with more body structure.

I'm a big guy too, Im just wondering if the Pole Position seats are ok for big people.

Im 5'9 210lbs with a 36-38 waist and the Nurburgrings fit me fine. I could do 300+ miles in them easily. I thought RussianBlue had Peter Z's seats :confused:
