Tensioner body screw

I finished rebuilding my factory style chain tensioners. Whovever rebuilt them before me must have overtighened the bolt in the side of the body because it twisted off. I got the thing out and put another one in identical size but it doent have the bleeder hole in it. Do I need to find an original or will the solid bolt be ok? What is the hole in the bolt actually for? I bled it the way the book says through the top of the piston and checkball.
