Help me place my order for refinish after pan replacement please!

I'll start with what i THINK i need:

1 can duplicolor self etching primer (for new bare metal)
1 pint POR15
1 quart metal ready
1 quart marine clean
1 can wurth high build rubberized undercoating
1 can wurth brushable seam sealer


duplicolor self etching primer is for new bare metal

POR system is for existing metal which includes battery boxes and lateral tank supports and outside part of seams under car which will remain in after removal of pan.

wurth undercoating will be sprayed over entire repair both inside trunk and under. it would cover POR'd areas (old metal) and self etching primered areas (new metal).

am i missing anything? anything i don't need in that list? alternatives that may work better?

i should add i don't have an air compressor and pro spray guns.

couple of specific questions;

-the replacement pan from Stoddard has some sort of primer like coating on it; should i spray the self etching primer over it once welded in?

-should i skip the self etching primer and just use the POR system over the entire repair?

-do i need the POR tiecoat primer to facilitate adhesion of the wurth undercoating?

You probably know this already, but as you mentioned the metal panel has primer/sealer on it from the maker. Be CERTAIN you remove all that (back to bare metal) a couple of inches from your seam, to get a good weld (no contaminates). I cannot speak to the final finishes you mention, I used Rustoleum paint throughout.

thanks for the tip Mo- i am going to remove all paint, primer and undercoating on both sides of every spot to be welded.

Por-15 does not like bare metal. From Por-15's website:

WHAT IS THE BEST SURFACE ON WHICH TO PAINT POR-15?
POR-15 likes rusted surfaces best. Seasoned metal and sandblasted metal are also good. POR-15 does not adhere well to smooth, shiny surfaces, but will adhere well to those surfaces with the proper preparation.

I had poor results with undercoat on top of POR-15. I do not know if it would have helped to put the undercoat on when the POR was tacky, but I put it onto a dried POR paint surface and while it adhered, it could be peeled off by hand.

Do some experiments before you go too far.

You might consider using Por-15's "Tie Coat Primer" over the Por-15 before you spray the undercoating. From Por-15's website:

CAN I PAINT OVER POR-15 WITH OTHER PAINTS?
Absolutely. POR-15 will accept all paints, including lacquer-based paints. POR-15 Tie-Coat Primer is the best prime coat to use before topcoating POR-15. Be sure to read thoroughly our directions and tip sheets regarding topcoating before using POR-15.

I think it's too glossy and smooth to top-coat. Tie coat would likely work.
