wevo shift coupler install
I'm in the process of installing the wevo shift coupler and seem to have a problem . . . as i was trying to position the coupler, on the rod i somehow lost the "neurtral" position . . . . as i have been trying to rotate and align the tranny rod, it seams like i've gotter her stuck in rev. . and i can't push the rod to the back well enough to get it in N.
I've tried putting the shifter in the rev position, then tightening the coupler in, but i still can't seem to grab neutral. I have read the Hayne, 101 projects, tech manual and searched the site. HOnestly, I'm felling dumb about this . . . i was able to adjust the coupler before and can't understand why it wont land in Neutral. Could my problem be related to the lockout spring in the 5th gear area? any ideas would be appreciated. thanks Adam |

Contact Wevoid (Hayden) here on the Board. He is Wevo! He'll be able to guide you.

Sometimes the tranny will seem a little rough, if you are in gear and jacked up on jack stands, try moving the rear wheels back and forth to loosen up the tranny.

Don - I'm flat on the ground and only able to pull backwards just a bit since i am "stuck" in R. I guess i could jack her up, but is that really going to help me get her into N?
Argh, this is so frustrating . . . thanks in advance A |

Adam,
Not sure if I can help, but a couple of pieces of info that might help you recover. The hole for the tapered set screw in the main shift rod - poking out the front of the transmission should be vertical when the transmission is in the 3rd/4th plane. If it is to the right of vertical the transmission is in the 1st/2nd plane, if the hole is to the left of vertical it is in the 5th/rev plane. The main shift rod pulled all the way out of the transmission will give you 2nd, 4th and rev - while pushed all the way in will give 1st,3rd, and 5th. As a reference, from the edge of the nose casting - around the seal - to the hole in the shift rod is approximately 73mm in 1st,3rd and 5th, 85mm in neutral, 97mm in 2nd 4th and reverse. Therefore reverse would be to the left of vertical and ~ 97mm from the nose casting to the center of the set screw hole.... Verify that you are where you think you are, then attempt to move the main shift rod to neutral. I would re-install the old coupler onto the transmission - it's bulky size give you move surafecs to lever against - gently - if that is what is required to get the transmission into neutral. Reverse is normally the easiest gear to select, as there is no synchro ring to collapse, the slider moves across open space into mesh and there is a small detent holding it in gear, nothing else. Try installing the PSJ with the transmission in 3rd gear, it offers the most room and initial ease in setting the coupler and shifter position. Regards Hayden |

Adam, Hayden is the guru. I know in the past, I have had the transmission seem locked or the gears are in such a postion I can't move the shifter until I "bump" the gears. You may have the gears in a position that they are not easy to move.

When the gears are engaged with a little force on them, it is hard to move the shifter by hand. When you find the little slop that exists or get where the syncros are just right, it goes in and out of gear easier. I know I sometime have to move my car a little to get the gearshift to go in gear even with the clutch in. I am problably not describing it well . I assume you have the clutch in while you are moving the shifter.
