About 2500 miles ago I had my transmission and clutch rebuilt.
Friday I'm taking off with some power and the shifter seems to slip/move, it did it in 2nd as well. If I take it easy, there seems to be no movement. Imagine my surprise when I crawled under the car today and saw what I'm sure is the problem. The four bolts in the center of the crossbar mount go to the transmission, right? There are 2 studs without nuts passing through the forward holes and no studs, just holes in the rear two. The crossbar was cleaned, I don't know how this was missed. What kind of bolts go there, maybe they weren't torqued down? Should I expect any other damage to my new tranny and clutch? I'll take it in Mon. morning but I'm sure they'll just want to tighten everything up and tell me everything's fine. Piss on my foot and tell me it's raining. At this point, I can't believe anything they tell me. The tranny feels fine but I'm concerned at least about premature wear. Whata think? Thanks

People get in a hurry. Shame. I think it's all in how they handle it and you when you go back. If they give you any crap at all, you should be doing all the pissing.
Down at the courthouse for your time off. |

So if everything sounds and feels OK I shouldn't worry about damage?
Also, there is a boot or rubber covering on the front of the tranny at the firewall that is torn and hanging down, looks like a short round piece, 2-3 inches long on the front of the transmission cover. Does this help hold the tranny inplace?

That just keeps grime from getting into the car around the shift rod. Mine's just hanging, too... without getting the car higher than on jack stands I just can't manage to work it back over the flange.

You should take it back and explain that you are not happy about the lack of quality in their work. They should take this seriously and fix it including replacing the rubber boot which should have been done anyway while he was in there.

Actually this is an ongoing saga. After the 2nd time the engine was out because of a bad new TOB, I was stranded on a freeway transition because they had not tightened that nut with the 3 ground wires on the left side of the engine. That was fun, I had never pushed my car and I pushed the car on my right foot while cars are screaming passed at 80 mph.
I could use a clutch cable anyway, I'm thinking they should throw that in for my trouble.

Just another case supporting the popular "Do It Yourself" craze that seems to be gaining popularity. Nobody is going to care for your stuff as much as YOU do.
Man, this really sucks for ya. Hope it all works out for the best!!! Randy
