Fuel Pump Electircals
I am having a few electrical challenges with my 82 SC. When the car is hot, the fuel pump electricals do not work. Today when I was doing a few errands (3rd stop), I was unable to get the car started - fuel pump would not stay on once the engine flashed up. After changing the fuel pump relay with the window relay, the car started immediately. Now the car starts every time. The fuel pump relay is new (less than 500 miles)
So - what the heck is the difference between the inner workings of the fuel pump relay and the window relay?? I am going to study the wiring diagram again. |

I believe there is some protective circuitry in the red relay. Search this and you'll find it.

The red relays have a noise suppresion diode across the relay coil to shunt the inductive spike that would be impressed onto the positive 12 Volt bus.
Your problem may be corrosion in the relay socket contacts, rather than the relay itself!
