Backup light switch
 

Hello everyone,

I'm having problems blowing fuse # 11 (turn signal and backup light) on an 82' 911SC. The fuse blows every time up put it in reverse.

My first thought was the the backup light switch may have a short. I tried looking for it and could not identify it. I found a plug about an inch in diameter with two holes right next to the rear passenger axle on the transmission. Could that be the backup light switch? If so, it seems like its sealed to the transmission. From the past posts that I've read, you should be able to unscrew the switch. Does anyone have a picture of the backup switch on the transmission??

The large arrow points to the backup light switch, the small arrow points to the boot connector that covers the 2 wires with pin connectors that plug into the switch. Its possible one of the pins has worked its way out of the switch and is shorting to the other wire. You may have to drop the front of the transmission slightly to gain access. The switch is activated by a small pin inside the transmission case that pushes the switch when it is pushed by the reverse gear toggle inside the transmission. Make sure when you remove your switch the pin doesn't fall out and get lost. Have a container ready to catch any fluid and swap the switch fast, or drain your fluid first.

The 1" plug looking thing you refer to is actually the sender for your speedometer.

those wire terminals take a beating under there.

the pin will fit both ways but won't operate correctly both ways.

an ohm meter can check the switch after removing the wires.

I was able to squeeze in there for sw in&out . The wire terminals needed a little help with a needle nose to fit them in the sw.
