Was CIS, now Generator/alternator! What's next?

What a week.... So tonight based on the excellent advice of this board, I recheckd for vacuum leaks, played with my mixture and idle screw to try to solve my rough CIS Idle, and took the car for a spin to bring it back up to 180F and recheck everything...

Ya... 1/2 way to 180F, the generator light came on solid and stayed that way...
Come to think of it, what "sshhhhh" sound I might have taken for a massive airbox leak could very well have been generator bearings going "arrrggghhh"... Voltage after charging both batteries was 12.x volts (can't read that close, crappy meter), and under load @2000 rpm = the same !

So I think I need a generator/alternator - whichever it is... This car is paying ME back for neglect by its previous owners ;-( How long can I drive on a good charge ? I need to drive about 45 minutes away to reach help, in town, daylight - should be fine right ?

Sorry for the rash of questions lately... I'm gonna take my 356 for a spin now to reconciliate myself with the Porsche Gods...

PS: Could a dying gen in any way affect my idle? I had to ask...
