What's that smoke coming from
I asked myself this as I woke from my 16th microsleep at 1am saturday morning while driving to New Orleans. Coming from behind the steering wheel.
Looks like my hi beam switch burned up. Now they are stuck on all the time when I have the lights all the way out. Suck. Is this an easy fix. No fuses blew (thank god). I wouldn't want to replace a 20 cent fuse in less than a minute when I could have the chance to disassemble the steering column and replace a much more expensive part.

I think you will need to buy a new switch assembly. To prevent this happening again you should put in a relay. There have been heaps of threads on this issue.
Think its a Sucro relay assembly.

Thanks for the advice. I honestly thought it might be a 10 dollar switch. No - $130.

Well, i did stop at the next hotel. The Antlers Inn.
The Antlers weren't the only thing that was alive on the wall. If you want to see a lack of bravery, then it was me getting into the shower and seeing a 6 inch brown recluse on the shower curtain. I screamed a little bit and made some twitching movements before I ran away.

You may be able to fix it yourself at least temporarily. Either way you pull the steering wheel off and the plastic column covers. The switch works by using three contacts on the end of little strips of metal. Depending on which combination of contacts are touching determine which headlight series is on, low, high beam or flash. The three sets of contacts are push or pulled into each other by a plastic plunger when the lever is moved. Once you pull the wheel and cover so you can see it work the lever and it will make perfect sense. If you have two contacts that are touching all the time that's when you have only high beams or flash mode and they may have welded themselves together from the constant contact. If you bend the one tab a little so it's not touch the other contact by itself then you can fix it at least temporarily. If you need to replace it go with a real OEM switch not an aftermarket one.

Cool. I'll give that a whirl. I could live without highbeams for a while, but I'll probably just replace it.
