3.2L dyno numbers - BIG HP
All the light weight 3.6 transplants have nothing on my 3.2L.
.....I wish. Dyno'd my car today. For future dyno debates, below are the dyno sheets. Engine: Stock 3.2L with Autothority MAF, Dansk pre-muffler, stock muffler, no AC. Max HP: 204.7 at rear wheels (240 hp factoring 15% loss) Max TQ: 187.0 Not sure that I buy 240HP but it's a reference point.

Those overly rich 11 to 10:1 AFRs are what I usually see with the Autothority MAF kits. Not sure why they are programmed so poorly, but you've got lots of power left on the table - at least another 10 hp with reprogramming.

Hi Steve,
I was going to e-mail you these. Yeah, the dyno person said it was a little rich. 10HP might be worth a custom chip. One thing I don't understand, the max A/F ratio is listed at the top as 17.5 but on the scale on the right, it's just over 12 at it highest point on the graph.

Ignore the max afr reading - that just the momentary lean condition when the dyno operator lifted off the throttle prior to shifting into third or fourth, and going wide open throttle. The afr log is the bottom curve line on the lower chart, and that you correlate with the rpm axis on the bottom and the afr axis on the right. Those can be remapped individually in 240 rpm increments.

Dan and Steve, thanks for the posting. I have a similar set up but with AC (this is Houston and not Washington state) and this is the first dyno I have seen with that set up. I'm especially interested in the notes from Steve on AF mixture. I've had my Autthority chip modified for the summer heat here but I suspect I am still getting some detonation at full throttle low load. I gather Steve can provide a new chip with the set up I have. Is it possible to get one that can factor in Houston summer temps? Or even spring temps since it hit 98 Saturday.

89911,
No 3.6 going into my car. My 3.6 will be wrapped in a 993 (future 993RS project after the 87 is done) Dyno was a DynoJet. Air temp was mid 60's. btw, I go the MAF working. JW found two contact pulled out of the connector when I had him adjust my stock air meter. With all the wires hooked up, it works very good. jtratza, I believe Steve W can customize a chip to your needs. Send him an e-mail with your questions. He's very helpful. One of the reasons for the dyno was because Steve told me the AutoT chips run rich. The car runs great but I wanted to see if there is room for performance improvement with a custom chip.

Dynojets have the highest readings of all so remember that...they are very optimistic dynos compared to something like a mustang.

Thanks Don. I have some more mods in mind for late this year and will discuss with Steve to get a chip made to order. Ideally I'd like one that takes into account temperature. Other option is to get one for summer and one for our "winters". I'm glad to see the results you got. I've been led to believe the hp increase is negligible but do get better throttle response. It also looks cool.

It's hard to know if there really is a HP increase with MAF. Throttle response is far better in my opinion but to know if the MAF does anything for HP, you'd have to do back to back runs and swap out the air meter with the MAF.
What's mods are you thinking about? I don't know of any more that can be done to a 3.2L without opening the motor.

Don, The motor is getting opened to fix a head stud, oil return tube and cam seal leaks, so while I'm in there I may as well take advantage of the situation. I haven't finalized the list yet but am planning on doing this for xmas. I figure this board should give me all the help I could ask for in putting the list together. Now if I could get them to pay for it that would be sweet. If you have any suggestions on the modifications please bring 'em on.

Tom -Thanks for posting the printouts. Rebuilt my 3.2 last year for the same reasons and changed cams while we were inside. as it sits now-MAF and chip with a debaffled "sport" exhaust. My numbers were almost the same as yours prior to any mods=206.2 hp and 181.9 Torque...after cams & MAF (exhaust was the same both times) 234hp and 195 torque. NOT the same dyno and I think that has a whole bunch to do with it. DYNOjet first time and DYNOmite second time......and 5 years between runs. Interesting stuff.
First post -This board is fantastic! What a great group and source of info!!

White85Carrera,
What cams did you use? BTW it was Don that posted the printouts of which I am envious.

Tom
964 cams and that made maybe a bigger difference than the MAF, which I added the year before. All new suspension last fall- so this track season is a joy for sure so far. It's an education for sure playing with the settings. Jim

white85, That really is a dynomite dyno if those numbers are at the rear wheels.
![]() My bentleys lists the following ratings for a stock 3.2L; 84-86; 200hp @5900, 185 lb-ft @ 4800 87-89; 217hp @5900, 195 lb-ft @ 4800 Other than differences in chip tuning, I don't know why porsche rated the years differently. If you buy into the 15% drive train loss , the rear wheel hp numbers for the above should be 170hp and 184hp respectively. If your numbers are flywheel hp, they are probably pretty accurate. If rear wheel hp, I want to know what cam is in there. 206.2hp rear wheel would be roughly 242.5hp at the flywheel. 234hp rear wheel would be roughly 275hp at the flywheel. I'm not sure that built 3.4L motors are making 275hp.

White, Thanks for the cam info. I guess this starts the modification log for this winters rebuild. Let's see, 964 cams, hmm what about enlarging the throttle body and adding SSI or other headers? Oh what fun.

The print out shows 234 at the wheels. My track times say much less. Oh yeah, I bored out the throttle body and intake, as well-foprgot until you mentioned it. I did pick up about 5 secs per lap at the Glen, but most of that is suspension, I think. So....while my own Dyno sheet says big numbers, I take it for what it is....a piece of paper. I agree the engine is strong but not THAT strong. is the delta between the HP and torque changes odd? I only picked up 13ft/lb for 28hp.
