Sacramento Area Porsche Owners

Anyone here from Sacramento?

I just need some feedback on a certain garage that I take my Porsche for service.

The garage is Schatz&Krum. Anyone take their cars there to be serviced? I would like some feedback on their quality of service.

i dont know much about the shop, only that when i was looking for a shop to do the PPI for my car, they wanted almost triple what anyone else wanted. might be worth it, i really dont know, but that seemed like a lot to me. i have heard great things about franks automotive. i personally use Jimmy Deering for my needs, he is a mobile mechanic, company is called Porsche Mobile Works, his number is 408-580-7919, great guy and great work.

Thanks for the mobile mech#

I talked to Frank's when I was looking at a '90 C2 with 85k on the clock. Seemed like such a great deal, but when talking with the shop the wrench finally just came out and told me that the heads were leaking. Enough said, I moved on.

Seemed pretty honest considering that he was the wrench for the wholesale dealer listing the car........

I've had good luck with Frank's and IPB AutoSport. I had S&K rebuild my trans, and the rebuild was good, but it took 3x as long as I think it should have.

Ok, I was driving down Howe Avenue on my way home yesterday and this dude in an Impala (i think it was an impala) but an old 70's sedan (probably a Hemi) . I was at the light and he to my right. Had my windows down when i heard "where did you get the P.O.S?" I looked over and grinned. He was kidding (i think). He said "Nice ride" where do you take it for service? I mentioned Shatz & Krum. He kinda winced and asked me if I liked them. I said they were OK. He suggested IPB on C street. They're a bit pricey. I was quoted between $650 to $750 for a major tune up. Others like Franks and Shatz quoted me $450 to $500 for the same job.

When comparing numbers, you just have to make sure they are doing the same services.

Carl83911,
Since I got my cab 4 years ago, I've always taken my car to Franks. Him and his son run a nice clean shop. Also, they tell you exactly what needs to be done versus trying to sell you services you don't need just to get the cash. Very honest people. I think Frank's has been around for 30 years.

As far as IPB Autosports, I heard that they were also good but also a little pricey.

______

Joggle my memory a bit. I remember talking with a Filipino dude at Java City who just bought a brand new 05 turbo S. His name is Jimmy. It this you?

I don't remember town & Country unless you were the one that bummed a cigerette from me? But no, I've been going to Stu for my M5 for years and have been pretty satisfied. I've only been taking my 911 to S&K since December. Since I'm new to the 911 scene and still getting to know my car, I'm just curious about the other shops. I do have concerns with S&K's quality control. The garage is packed full of BMW's and Porsches. I don't know how they keep track of their work order.

I suggested to Stu to have a Customer survey regarding the satisfaction of their work. I've referred 4 new porsche owners and it's basicaly 50/50 in their satisfaction.

I will definitely try MobileWrks next time I need service. It sure is a convenience to have the mechanic come to your house. I do that now with my MobileVet when my cats need fixing.

I have logged the nomber on my cell. Thanks for the link. $50.00 is a good price for labor. the $90 to 140 per hour labor charges from dealers include overhead expenses. The actual mechanics that work on your car in these places will not see the 90 to 140 range. So with MobileWrks, the overhead is much lower compared to if they had a shop and employees.

Tom Amon does most of the bay, i cover this area out this way. I do live in sacramento, mobileworks / mobileworks west started in san jose, then i worked my way out here.. While Tom is still cover there.. But from time to time, both me and Tom Get together on the bigger jobs.

Carl:

S&K serviced my M3 for many years. Their prices are very reasonable, quality of work is good but there level of detail is poor. I've had a few curbed wheels, car being taken for errands, not all bolts put back on They are just too busy to give cars a final walk over. I take my 993 elsewhere now. Frank's is reasonable; he quotes labor time directly from Alldata database. IPB is a bit pricey . I go to Devek in the Bay Area since they have gobs of experience on 993's.

good luck
