Flush rear window - a different approach???
 

Ok, we've all seen those GT racing style flush rear window frames that allow one to mount a lexan window (Jack has one). I have a different idea. What if I:
1) cut off 3/4 of the rear window lip that holds the seal in (the part along the roof and C pillars)
2) weld the leftover gap shut
3) weld in a new lip higher up (closer to the roofline eliminating the air vent holes), so that a factory 911 or 964 seal will fit more flush at the top and C pilliars (like it does at the bottom along the tail)

Thoughts? I just think it would add a very subtle but stock look and acheive most of the aero advantage.

Somewhere I saw pix of a roof where they did something like that, but didn't cut the off the original lip - the just welded a second flange for the lexan window. The orignal flange joins the roof skin and inner support, so if you were to cut it, you'd be creating some problems, or at least a lot of work, for not much if any weight savings.

I have thought about making second 'glass hardtop mold with this mod.

If I don't cut off the existing flange, I wouldn't be able to use a factory rubber seal and a glass window. Not sure I want to go the lexan route YET. I've already shaved my rain gutters so this can't be as hard - All the work gets covered up anyway;) I figured I should make the decision BEFORE I go to paint though.
