What are prospects of making K&N style filters out of early stock air cleaner bases?

I have seen dyno results that there are no significant gains by removing the stock air plenum and filter in lieu of the "watershield" type of filter arrangement. However, other than the cool factor, there is a clean look afforded by having smaller, individual filters. And sound.

The pre '72 start squirters notwithstanding, has anyone started with the bases and gone from there?

The stock bases are smaller than the K&N filter element AFAICT, but maybe there is a smaller, or six indies, that will work?

Any thoughts? You know me, always in trouble thinking.

BTW, these were (or still are) FS on the parts BBS. That was his approach to the start squirters. I don't know if they had jets in them, but the stock system has tiny, tiny holes in the ends of the tubes. These are not using any stock parts that I can see. I was thinking of something a little more racey.

I imagine any one as crafty as you could make up something out of the originals. I chose the simple route and went with individual foam pods.

Ok, while it DOES look good, I thought you might have something goin' on with MFI and the bases. I'm envisioning somthing that takes advantage of the size of the MFI base, i.e., it doesn't interfere with the MFI pump and the linkage to the suel shut off micro switch.

W/O those problems, standard K&N filters would be fine.
