O2 Sensor removal - Help
In the ongoing saga of having failed the e-test. I have decided to change the 02 sensor. After removing the heat shield, I can not get the 02 sensor loose from the exhaust (22mm wrench) and I don't want to force it and strip the thread. Have applied some liquid wrench and hope that works.
Are there any other tricks? Once the sensor is replaced, do I have to reset anything before I start up the car again? I had read that there is reset button behind the speedometer? |
well, they do have a tendency to seize in the threads, and there ain't much you can do about it, except muscle it out with lots of lubricant/penetrant, and then see what you need to do to repair the damage. a torch might help, heating the area around it red hot. it may just be real tight, and needs a longer tool for better leverage to crack it loose. lubricant doesn't work real well on red hot metal, so you would have to cool it before dosing it with lube.
no reset needed. |
John,
Thanks. Muscle and lubricant always seems to work. Got it loose and installed the new one. Time to fill her up with "crappy" gas and go the get the e-test done tomorrow. |
