Need tow dolly advice

I need to tow a project car about 700miles to a new storage location. Car has no motor, no tranny, and no CV joints in it right now. I was planning on going to uhaul and getting a one way tow dolly.

Can I use one of these safely for 750 miles without the CVs, motor, and tranny in the car? Im not familiar with how the rear wheel bearings are contained, but my fear is that they somehow fall out or seize up due to the CVs not being connected? Do I have anything to worry about? Or do i need to get the full trailer to haul the car?

Heres the tow dolly from uhauls website.

TIA

We towed a car, but used old CV joints to tighten the axle nut to. We just busted up the old cv and put the axle stub end in and tightened. This is, of course, if you have an old set. You don't want to roll a car without the axle nut in and tightened or it will ruin the rear bearing, which are expensive. It would be difficult to use a full CV axle and support it for a long trip. Hopefull you can dig up some old ones.

I actually do have some old CV joints

So, I need to separate the end that bolts into the trailing arm and bolt it in place?

If the car is 65-83 the outer stub axles unbolt and can be left in place to hold the bearing assembly . Without the stub axles the bearing could work its way loose but its unlikely . In the worst case the rear caliper would hold on the wheel but will likely cause some major rolling resistance issues . If the car is an 84-89 you can use an older stub axle in its place. The length(through the hub) and splines are the same as the earlier . The guy above my post must have dealt with an 84+ car since he had to bust an axle in order to leave the stub portion .

BTW make sure the rear shocks are in working order . It will bounce like a pogo stick without an engine/tranny back there .

Thanks guys. This place is great

Its the tangerine '72 in my sig. Everything on the car is 34 years old.

If I can tow it the way it is, without the CVs in place, thats what I want to do. I have new trailing arms for the car already so I really dont care about these bearings. I just want to make sure I can do it without seizing the rear wheels up while I going down the highway. Im going to have to make the 1500 mile round trip in a rental within 48hrs with little or no tools so I wont have a lot of time to bolt on parts or dork around with the car.

I towed one across the country backwards on a tow dolly. No issues.

okay, that would work assuming I could keep the wheels straight. How did you keep the front wheels straight?

i've used both tow dolly and full carrier..for a 1500 mile trip in 48 hrs., i'd go with the carrier and not sweat every mile. the extra money is cheap insurance if something does go wrong. come on, shu..you know that cash is just burning a hole in your pocket..
