what is this
somebody posted pics of there car and this was one of them now im young (17) and want to learn so this might sound dumb but i have no clue what the red boxes are

The boxes are the MSD ignition amplifiers or ignition modules.

They are add ons for the ignition system. They might come under the "If more is better then too much is just right" department.
The MSD system changes your car so instead of having one spark when the cylinder fires, to having a number of sparks. A number of people swear by the system. I kind of think that once the fire is started then the rest of the sparks are a waste. Either way, it definitely doesn't hurt.
