Bought new wheels, need opinions...

OK, I'm starting to "melt" my S03's on my 7"/8" Fuchs. So, I've been looking around at a second set of wheels for track tires, probably Toyo RA-1's. I was looking at BBS sets, and came across this set on ebay, and I bought them. HRE three piece wheels (8's & 9's) with Fuchs centers. Almost new Avon 225's front/245's rear. Now, I need to decide which set should be the track wheels. I will say these new ones cost a bit more than my Fuchs....I'm thinking Fuchs for track and HRE's for street-what do you think?

Probably too nice for track right? Not that I'm planning on going to trash my Fuchs, but the thing I like about these is the "bling" effect, but they've got the Fuchs core working there in the center.

I think I would keep the HRE's for the street and beat up the Fuchs on the track.

Here are some pics of my S03's after my last trip to the track...about 3000 miles, kinda pricey at this rate.

I'd keep the Fuchs for the street and the HREs' for the track considering the sizes are better for tracking the car. Also, I've seen your car with the Fuchs. I think the Fuchs look better.

You do run the risk of trashing the Fuchs on the track because they can crack after so many stress cycles. They were designed before the current tire compounds and they are an aluminum alloy so they do have a shelf life so to speak.

That's another good thing about the HREs' for the track is if you crack a center from tracking the car you can find a cheap 6x16 to use as a doaner to replace it. If you crack one of the Fuchs it's garbage.

Here's a picture of Ed's car with the Fuchs he has.

Keep those HREs for the street. They look great. A hint of bling, but not over the top, and they keep the Fuchs look.

Beautiful wheels. I'd run the new wheels on the street. They're a nice variation of a classic theme. When you're on the track, who cares what the car looks like.

HRE Fuchs replicas don't use real Fuchs centers. They forge their own. A donor wheel center wouldn't be required.

I don't use those tires so it's hard for me to know what the tread is supposed to look like. But on the groove of tread in the photo, just looks like you have picked up a bunch of R1 compound from other people's tires. Is there something wrong in the photo besides this and a bit of wear?

I don't think your tires are melting...

Thanks for the feedback. There is some R compound stuck to the tire, but the tires themselves are definitely seeing effects.

Bobboloo's comment about the Fuchs getting old is a valid thought. Of course, now I'm thinking about a cheap set of BBS for the track, run the HRE's for now, and hang on to the Fuchs...

Both of your sets of wheels are too nice for the track....No point in messing up the polished fuchs or the HRE's. Get some cheap lightweight wheels from tire rack to use on the track.

dayum - those are nice - I thought my track wheels were nice - but hey - those are sweet... Sell them to somebody for some bling and get you a set of cheap wheels... like under 1000 for a set of four. just my humble florida opinion

Well I should have them next week, once I get them on the car, I'll post some before/after pics.

I really wanted a set of track wheels, but these really caught my eye.

To stray a little but since some are recommending Ed to do this, what rims are you suggesting? Everyone on here seems to doubt cast rims of any sort for track duty and I wouldn't put steels on my truck this winter for the Blizzaks so that's out. What "cheap" alternatives are out there for the 911? I can think of some used examples likt the phone dials or 90's but are we talking new for track use?

I was originally looking for "cosmetically challenged" BBS wheels, but found the ones I bought. I still think some used BBS with a can of spray paint would make an excellent track wheel.
