Thinking of selling my 84 Carrera.
I only drive it on sunny days/weekends and every time my five yr old see's a convertable she yells "look Daddy, that one has no top" Have done one DE at VIR and while I did have a blast I just don't have the time or funds to keep up with DE's and performance upgrades. Soooooo, am thinking of selling it and purchasing a Beck Speedster. No it's not a Porsche. But it'll be new, cheap to maintain and most importantly more fun for my family. My question is am I crazy to think I can get the $18,200 that I paid for it? Miles are at 80K. Have done the following;
Hawk black brake pads Stainless steel brake lines Bridgestone Potenza's Stomski Racing shift coupler New shift bushing's Momo shadow shift knob Brey Krause strut brace New idle control valve Swepco gear lube Momo Competition steering wheel. New red clewitt ignition wires Rotor, cap, Bosch Super plugs It's Guards red. Paint is in great shape. Interior is an 7 out of 10. Have a new dash ready for install. What do ya think?

From what I've seen the price point seems to be closer to $12-14K, unless your car is super clean
One thing that may be a factor is location. I suspect that prices will be higher where the cars are less plentiful. Good luck |

How many miles were on the car when you bought it for $18K?

For a few k more someone can get a 964, which is the problem. They really are completely different beasts. After they strip the 964 (like a lot do to the 3.2s to make em faster), they have a car that's putting out 250 ponies and, despite what the book says, like 500 ft lbs or torque (sure feels like it although the actual number is 228 ft lbs).
Anyway, that's the problemo with that price.

14- $20k is about right if you lived in California but you are on the east side. I looked at many that were priced at $16k and they all looked "used" and tired.

Will look for some pics. Car is really clean. Have put 3k on it since purchase last yr. Far from "used and tired"

When I was still 911 shopping over the winter, I'd have to say that $18.2 price is about right for the Northwest (if the car's in good condition). I saw Carrera's being advertised for about $17.5 up to $25K. Conditions varied as much as sellers' imaginations.

Geez, you guys are harsh. He even posted that he may be crazy... cut him a little slack.
$18K is a lot for the car I agree, but I think you could probably get $15 or so if you are not in a hurry. Pointing out that you can get a 964 for this kind of money is OK, but then you've got the ugliest 911 ever made. My $.02. Ray, post some pics and let us see what you have.

Sure, you can buy a 964 for around the same. However, it will need major work to bring it upto par. trust me.
964 are not cheap to maintain either. |

I say just put it up for sale at the price you decide. The market will let you know if you priced it too high. In the SF bay area, a very clean 84' carrera with 80k miles would fetch $18K.

They are worth more in the NE. $18K with that kind of mileage is in the ballpark. Of course it depends on how the rest of the car looks.

I've posted on this sort of topic many times...do a search if interested.
Cars on the East coast at $12-$18K for this car are VERY tired and after you look more deeply...can swallow a lot of $ to bring up to snuff. IMHO....$18-20k+ is the going rate for a "nice" car on the East that has no issues and is is very good mechanical and cosmetic condition. I just don't get this $12-14K for an 84. Must be a west coast thing...or a track junkie thing as a "starter" platform for major mods. What then does a nice 73 go for? Same?? ..or would that be $6-$8K for a car another decade older ?? Don't think so.... Wil

Just searched for cars in the Chicago area. If you car is in good shape, it looks like you're right on the money as far as price goes. No it probably won't sell in a day, but if you're not in a hurry, you'll get $18K. There's a lot of tired Carreras around here for $15K+

Thanx for all the input. Since I'm not in a hurry I'll probably try $18,500
Should almost cover the cost of a custom built Beck Speedster.
