trailing arm monoball install - what to do when they spin in the AL arm?
These are elephant racing trailing arm pick-up monoballs. So....I installed my trailing arm monoballs today. One set is perfect, in the second, the outer surface of the monoball spins in the aluminum trailing arm. It doesn't spin as easily as the inner bearing......
Removal and installation was simple, don't understand why they spin? They spin with hand pressure, not easily, but I'd think they'd require more pressure to spin. I'd imagine it is a few thousandths of an inch or so. I'd be afraid that over time the gap would widen. Should I use JB Weld to fill the additional space? Is there a thread that I missed here? I've done this twice. The last set, I pressed these in with a hydraulic press. The first set, one was not as tight as I would like. We went in and scored the inner aluminum surface to create some irregularities for retension and then used some special bearing seal. I think Loctite can be used also.

Loctite makes a "bearing and stud mount" product - great idea!

Hi Doug
There is some variation in the AL arms and manufacturing tolerance in the monoball housing too. You're probably pairing up a couple from the opposite extremes. Try swapping the monoballs in the arms. You may find a better fit. Failing that, the loctite bearing mount stuff should work. |
