when mobil one 15-50 is gone, what will you use?

just wondering if castrol syntek 20-50 will be the replacement. or maybe redline. the 993 crowd is gonna freak out. you do know mobil one 15-50 is being discontinued, right?

This is what Mobil1.com lists for the standard formula:

Mobil 1 0W-30
Mobil 1 0W-40
Mobil 1 5W-20
Mobil 1 5W-30
Mobil 1 10W-30
Mobil 1 Truck & SUV Formula

and what they list for Extended Performance Mobil 1:

Available as:
Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W-30
Mobil 1 Extended Performance 10W-30
Mobil 1 Extended Performance 10W-40
Mobil 1 Extended Performance 15W-50

Are they discontinuing the Extended Performance version?

This is all I could find: http://www.noln.net/columns/ExxonMobil-New.htm

" development for two years, ExxonMobil decided to produce the high-endurance motor oils to meet what it perceives as rising consumer demand for such products.

"Over the past few years, automobile manufacturers have started recommending longer oil-change intervals, sometimes as high as 15,000 miles. Yet, many car owners are confused about exactly how long their motor oil will perform," said Mike Mullins, vice president of Marketing, ExxonMobil Lubricants Specialties. "As an industry leader, ExxonMobil developed the new Mobil high-endurance motor oils to respond to a previously unmet consumer need by guaranteeing performance and protection for 5,000, 7,500 or 15,000 miles."

In conjunction with this move, ExxonMobil is discontinuing its Mobil Drive Clean and Drive Clean Blend products. Mobil 1 synthetic will remain unchanged."

yes. so that leaves 10-40, or go with another brand. what would you all like if you had a shop doing your changes?

Castrol shoud be fine, although I liked Mobil 1 much better (back when my engine didn't leak as bad!). Stay away from Quaker State unless you want teflon build-ups (you paid for 300hp, are you getting all of them - my ass).

So is there anything less desireable about the Extended Performance version?

Last week, I went to three different Wal*Mart stores until I finally found 15W-50 Mobil 1 in those 5 qt jugs... I hope they don't discontinue it.

Figures. It's been working great in my car. Think I'll go see if I can still get some.

I will go with redline. I tried to find this oil this weekend and the local PepBoys was sold out! they said someone came in and purchased all the oil they had in that type.

I ended up with Valvoline 20/50 synthetic.

I don't think the 968 will care if it's 10-40. Good thing I only use cheap Castrol dino in the 911.

i guess that's why i'm asking. they all basically meet SAE specs, so it's just a matter of what label is the nicest and what does it taste like, right. kind of like whiskey and cigarettes. some have a different additive or color or resist aerating, or whatever. just trying to find a replacement that will be commonly accepted by the porsche crowd, and any good reason to use one brand over another.
