901 Trans ID????

I promise I have searched and wow am I more informed on my first venture into the 901! But, I just purchased this used for a project car and have two questions:

What doe the serial number 7196038 tell me? I cannot find this information anywhere on the web. Five speed, four, year???


Where on the case do I find the darn type number? I am looking everywhere....
