The ultimate Porsche Urban Legend thread

Many years ago I heard that a woman sued Porsche because her husband perished in a 930 accident. I'm guessing the rear lifted in a turn.
The basis of the complaint was that they made a car that was to fast (read dangerous) for the average driver and for street use.

True or urban legend?

Next confirmed legend....all Carreras have valve guide and rod bolt issues...

A friend, upon me telling him that I bought a Carrera:

"Oh watch out, Porsches have bad roadholding"

Turbos accelerate so hard that if you stuck a $100 bill on the dash - you could not get out of your seat to reach it under hard acceleration

That's a good one. I must admit that I had heard of the diabolical nature of 911's. I've actually found that not only does the car handle magnificently, but even the TLO is not that bad, especially if you understand it. It is easy to see where that one comes from though.

You can't have a $100 bill in a Turbo. Your mechanic has them.

I heard somewhere that over 50% of the turbos that are totalled were wrecked backwards... Anybody else hear that?

over 50% of all 930's have been in a accident some time during it's life.

Unfortunately, I don't believe this is urban legend... :-(

I don't remember the details, but ther was a bad accident in San Diego involving a Turbo and some pedestrians, etc. This was well over 20 years ago when Turbos were new. There was a lawsuit. This also was the beginning of the "deep pockets" revolution and I think everyone got named including Porsche.

I seem to recall the driver may have been a dentist. Anyone know that deal? I was living one county north and got some of it on TV and some in the paper.

A red Porsche is the first to get a speeding ticket when a cop lights up a group of cars.
Cops have a big chart on the wall at the cop place and they get gold stars for any porsche ticketed.

Oh, I know it. It's not about safety. If a Guards Red Porsche with fresh S-03's and a '48 Rambler with bald tires and only one working brake light are clipping along the freeway at 85 mph, the Porsche gets the ticket, even though the Rambler is a fatality waiting to happen. The reason for this is simple. The Porsche guy has no defense at the hearing.

How about the obvious one;

Only rich people own Porsches.

Definately false.

That whole "80% of Porsches that are wrecked have damage in the rear" probably relates more to how often they are rear ended. These cars have brakes that most cars can only dream of. When I have a passenger, they always comment on how late I brake for stop and it makes them nervous. Maybe other drivers, looking at Porsche brake lights to indicate when they should apply there brakes, find that they don't have enough room to haul the old Maverick down. I don't know, just an idea.

"Porsche drivers have small pricks."

Yes, it's an Urban Legend!
