Chains and tensioners labour time?

Hi I have a failed hydraulic tensioner on my 85 3.2 carrera should the chains be replaced or is it safe to just change the tensioner? I have been advised the engine will need to be taken out? How many hours work would this job involve for a competent mechanic? Thanks

I’ve changed these with the engine in the car in about 2 to 3 hours. The chains almost never need replacing unless damaged. I would however replace the chains if I were doing a rebuild if they were stretched at all.
