Inside door handles- Al aftermarket or plastic OEM?
Hi,
I am replacing my inside door handles. Are the aftermarket Aluminum ones worth the extra money? Wondering who has them and feedback on this upgrade from the "feel" difference. Simon

I replaced mine about a year ago with some aluminum ones I purchased used on Pelican classifieds. In my opinion they "feel" much better, they are firm to the touch rather than the flimsy feel of the plastic.Mine are black anodised with the Porsche crest which adds a nice touch.

Carcrafter sells good billet handles, basically just for cosmentics.

I opted for the plain black aluminum ones, which are virtually indistinguishable from the plastic OEM handles--no fancy crest or anything. The risk with the plastic ones is that the small tang to which the door-opening pull rod attaches will eventually break, which is not a problem with the aluminum ones. So yes, I think they're worth the extra money and it has nothing to do with cosmetics.

The plastic ones break. As Formerly said, the plain aluminum ones are virtually indistinguishable from the OEM plastic handles. It's a no brainer....

the paint wears off eventually - that's the only downside. I'd do it if my plastic one broke, otherwise put it on your list and see what would be more imp. for you. The ones with a crest are the nicest I think.

As a counterpoint, I know of vehicles with over 300,000 miles on them that still have the original plastic handles--driven daily too.
If mine broke, I'd consider the aluminum-logo model, though.

Hello,
I just put the aluminum door handles on my 85 targa yesterday. Was a nice upgrade from the stock plastic ones. No more bending handles when opening up the doors, and was a nice improved look from my old faded plastic ones. I hope this helps. Darin |
